Holiday *San Antonio Express* display: decorative border, “A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” H. & H. Blend thanks and 1915 teaser

This 25 December 1914 (Christmas) San Antonio Express advertisement carries a decorative border and a house greeting: “We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” The body thanks patrons for a year of increased business, credits both quality and a “square deal to all,” and highlights H. & H. BLEND for the holiday table. A closing line promises “an unusual proposition” for coffee consumers in 1915—watch the papers—anchoring the clip firmly at the year-end. It is a useful bridge between pre-war retail copy and the marketing pushes that follow in the next cycle.

Head:

We Wish You
A Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year

Body (continuous):

“You have been very kind to us during the past year, and more than liberal with your patronage, and we are again able to report a handsome increase in our business over previous years. This we feel is the result of two things: First, the excellent quality of our goods, and, second, our policy of a ‘square deal’ to all.

We wish to thank you especially for the very liberal use of our H. & H. BLEND, and assure you there is nothing better at any price. Try it for your Christmas dinner.

We will have an unusual proposition to offer to the consumers of our Coffees during 1915. Watch for the announcement later.”
