COFFEE COMPANY BUSINESS GROWS AT RAPID PACE

PAST SIX MONTHS HAVE EXCEEDED RECORD OF TWENTY YEARS.

The Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee Company is the outgrowth of a one-man business established in 1900 by the late William R. Hoffmann, who at that time did all his own soliciting, filled his own orders, and attended to collections and office details — a sharp contrast to the modern roasting plant that is now one of the leading establishments of its character in the Southwest.

The article reports that the last six months of business exceeded the volume of any previous six-month period in the company’s history to date (twenty years), with growth of more than 30 percent compared with the prior period, despite wartime and industry handicaps.

Following Mr. Hoffmann’s death, the piece states, G. P. Menger took charge; the company consolidated with the Merchant’s Coffee Company under W. E. Hayman’s management. The firm is best known for H. & H. Blend Coffee, roasted, blended, and packed in San Antonio, described as a leading seller across the Southwest, including sales through hundreds of local groceries (the clip cites 447 San Antonio stores selling the line).

The story emphasizes consistent quality from plant to consumer and pride in local roasting.
