Solo-Serve grocery endorsement of H and H Crystalvac Coffee — SA Light, 2 May 1934
Solo-Serve (San Antonio grocery store) half-column display ad in the San Antonio Light of Wednesday, 2 May 1934 endorsing H and H Coffee Vacuum Packed in the famous H and H Crystalvac Container as “sold and recommended by SOLO-SERVE.” Slogan in the headline area: “H AND H Coffee — is sold and recommended by SOLO-SERVE.”
This is the cleanest dated third-party retailer endorsement of the H and H Crystalvac SKU in the project corpus to date. The body copy explains:
“The famous H and H blend of finest coffees is roasted by the exclusive H and H roasting process in the South’s newest and most modern coffee roasting plant, then rushed to you, vacuum packed in the Crystalvac container, that keeps it at the peak of its freshness and flavor.”
The call-to-action is a destination-shopping invitation: “Visit the Special Display of H and H Quality Products” at Solo-Serve, 116-128 Soledad St. in downtown San Antonio. The hero image is a single 1-lb. H and H Blend Coffee Crystalvac jar with the “VACUUM PACKED” / “STEEL CUT” descriptors and the HOFFMANN-HAYMAN COFFEE CO. SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS attribution.
Useful primary-source evidence for: the maturity of the 1934 H&H Crystalvac retail distribution; the Solo-Serve account; the contemporaneous Soledad Street Solo-Serve store address; and the “South’s newest and most modern coffee roasting plant” descriptor in roughly 18 months after the late-1932 plant opening at the new West Houston Street location.
