“50 Texas Gold Bonus Stamps in 2-lb. Can” — SA Light, 28 June 1962

Two stacked grocer-ad panels reading:

WE REDEEM CERTIFICATES FROM… Master Chef Coffee50 TEXAS GOLD BONUS STAMPS — IN 2-LB. CAN—25 IN 1-LB. CAN

Master Chef Coffee — 2-POUND VACUUM $1.25 — POUND VACUUM 63¢

This clip is a major research find for the Hoffmann-Hayman appreciation-certificate / gift-certificate program arc — published on the same day (1962-06-28) as the Texas Express-News S&H Green Stamps badge in a different San Antonio daily, but for a completely different trading-stamp brand: Texas Gold Bonus Stamps.

Implication: when the August 1961 consumer-launch ads said “250 TRADING STAMPS OF YOUR CHOICE” (see HH-CLIP-1961-0001, HH-CLIP-1961-0006) and the trade-press launch said “the trading stamps of their choice” (HH-CLIP-1961-0005), that language was not marketing puffery. It described a real consumer-choice mechanic enabled by competing grocers honoring different stamp programs but all redeeming Master Chef’s universal in-can certificates.

Stamp denomination math (corroborates HH-CLIP-1961-0007):

  • 2-lb can holds 2 certificates50 Texas Gold Bonus Stamps total (this clip)
  • 1-lb can holds 1 certificate25 Texas Gold Bonus Stamps total (this clip)
  • Per-certificate denomination: 25 stamps (confirmed across multiple stamp brands and clips)

Prices match the 1962-01-31 grocer line listing: 2-lb $1.25, 1-lb 63¢. Stable Master Chef retail pricing across the first half of 1962.

Trading-stamp partners now documented for the program:

  1. S&H Green Stamps (HH-CLIP-1962-0003, 1962-06-28 SA Express-News)
  2. Texas Gold Bonus Stamps (this record, 1962-06-28 SA Light)

Worth investigating: who issued Texas Gold Bonus Stamps, and what other regional stamp brands honored Master Chef certificates.
