Julian Harrison Toulouse
Julian Harrison Toulouse was a glass researcher and author whose two standard reference works the H&H knowledge base relies on to identify and date glass jars and bottles: Fruit Jars (1969) and Bottle Makers and Their Marks (1971). His guides organize decades of observations into lookup-oriented typologies — initials, symbols, and plant codes embossed on bases and heels, with context on firms and dating.
Toulouse is the typological authority behind the project’s Crystalvac jar identifications. Collector literature attributes the large three-pound jar body design to “Dr. Toulouse,” but no primary-source citation has been tied to that claim on this site — treat it as tradition, not fact, until a citation is added.
Open questions
- The three-pound jar body-design attribution to Toulouse is unverified collector tradition.
- Whether Toulouse’s typology includes the H&H Crystalvac form as a distinct entry is the subject of TODO-60.
