“S. A. coffee is shipped by carloads” — San Antonio Light, 28 Oct 1927

The San Antonio Light of 28 October 1927 (page 28) stacks a tall column head, “S. A. coffee is shipped by carloads,” over a second banner on coffee bound for New Mexico, then a press photograph of Santa Fe (A.T. & S.F.) boxcar 122071 with a long white placard down the car side: a carload of Sam Houston for Albuquerque and the Hoffmann-Hayman line in San Antonio. The adjacent article ties the 1927 Sam Houston launch to tumbler and imported cup-and-saucer pack-ins. Syndicated “Food recipes” filler under the cut is not part of the coffee story. Altogether the page shows how fast Sam Houston was moving west after only about two months in the Albuquerque market.

San Antonio’s fame as a coffee roasting center is rapidly being spread and now it has been extended westward beyond the state into New Mexico.
The Hoffman Hayman Coffee company has just made a carload shipment of Sam Houston coffee to be distributed by the retail grocers of Albuquerque, N. M.
Sam Houston has been sold in that city for less than two months, but the demand for it has been so great that a shipment of a solid carload was necessary.
Each one pound can of Sam Houston coffee contains an attractive glass tumbler and each three pound can contains an attractive imported cup and saucer. Housewives are enabled to make attractive sets with the cups, saucers and glasses that are given as premiums in Sam Houston coffee.
This coffee is roasted by the Hoffman Hayman Coffee company in this city and is handled by the leading grocers in San Antonio and other parts of the Southwest.
