A mid-1938 H and H Coffee Co. display ad pivoting the company’s premium program from in-pack coupons to an opening-strip token system: every vacuum can of H and H or Sam Houston Coffee now carries a printed “Diamond” on the top opening strip, and customers clip those diamonds plus a small cash co-pay to claim fifteen different gift offers — three of which are previewed in the ad (four Rogers Silverplate iced-tea/iced-coffee spoons in the Nuart pattern for 3 diamonds + 50¢; a $1.80 glass percolator for 6 diamonds + $1; a $3.45 glass coffee brewer for 6 diamonds + $2).
