‘We Redeem Master Chef Coffee Gift Certificates for S&H Green Stamps’ badge — SA Express-News, 28 June 1962

Circular badge / point-of-purchase sticker design printed inside a larger grocer’s ad in the San Antonio Express-News. The badge reads “We Redeem Master Chef COFFEE Gift Certificates FOR S&H GREEN STAMPS.” Two new pieces of information for the Hoffmann-Hayman certificate-program arc:
- Specific trading-stamp partner named: S&H Green Stamps. The August 1961 consumer ads (Brownsville, El Nuevo Heraldo) and the Victoria Advocate trade-press story all framed the program as “trading stamps of your choice” — explicitly any stamp brand. By June 1962, at least one retailer (or the company) was promoting S&H specifically as the redemption pathway. S&H Green Stamps was the largest trading-stamp company of the era; the partnership may reflect a formal company agreement or simply an individual grocer’s preference.
- Program language evolved: “Gift Certificates” in 1962 versus “appreciation certificates” in the August 1961 launch language. Same in-can certificate, new marketing label. The 25-stamps-per-certificate denomination is documented in the October 1961 Express-News caption.
The badge artwork — circular, double-rule outer ring, slab serif + script display type — is a typical 1960s point-of-purchase decal style; the newspaper-printed version may have been a re-use of a window-sticker design intended for storefronts of participating S&H redemption centers.
