*San Antonio Light*, 8 Sept 1957, p. 69 — column mention of S. P. Stevens, "the outdoor advertising man," describing his Americana collection at the 200 block of Windsor Dr.

A 1957 San Antonio Light column item — the earliest press reference yet found identifying S. P. Stevens by occupation as “the outdoor advertising man” — places him at the 200 block of Windsor Drive with his gun room and early Americana collection. The detail that his home has a dedicated “gun room” with Indian relics, turn-of-the-century footwear, Revolutionary/Civil War/Western-era guns, and oil lamps from an old whaling vessel directly corroborates the family-lore profile: “collector of guns, Americana, and cars.”

See the 1966 full feature for the complete profile, and the S. P. Stevens KB page for full analysis.

S. P. Stevens, the outdoor advertising man, has a collection of early Americana which almost defies description. Along with Indian relics, turn-of-the-century footwear and old newspapers, he has guns from the Revolutionary, civil war and early western periods. Much of all this is on display in the gun room of the Stevens home in the 200 block of Windsor dr.—a room with a big fireplace over which hang two oil lamps from an old whaling vessel. And we could go on and on.
