Crystalvac Jars — Waffle Glass vs. Smooth (Looking for the “Older Brother”)

less than 1 minute read

Two empty square jars with screw necks, shot top-down on OSB: the left jar’s body is covered in a raised waffle or grid texture; the right jar is smooth clear glass of the same footprint. The Instagram caption framed the hunt for Crystalvac’s “older brother” — if common quart stock molds were one size, the one-pound Hoffmann-Hayman vacuum jars may sit on a custom or customer-owned mold that runs larger. This photo doesn’t settle the genealogy, but it documents the texture variant collectors use to sort Three Rivers–era production from later generic square jars.

Instagram 2018-06-28: Still looking for Crystalvac’s older brother. If these are quart jars, one pound H&H jars are larger and from a custom mold.
