H and H Coffee

Dedicated to the history of the Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee Co. founded 1899 in San Antonio, Texas.

Anita Coffee is a Hoffmann-Hayman house mark named on the Welcome roster with H and H Blend, Border, Broncho, and the other San Antonio lines. Retail formats for coffees of the era ran to one- and three-pound bags, tins, and pails in line with Sam Houston-scale packaging elsewhere on the site. Western-line Anita Brand metal packaging appears in reference photography from the Witte Museum—the three-pound Peaberry Blend pail under Packaging. No Anita tin, bag, or label has been photographed in this museum’s collection yet; the name also appears in 1930s newspaper advertising—the Bastrop Advertiser, September 2, 1937 clipping remains primary site documentation until labeled pieces accession here.
