331 Burnett Street

San Antonio, Texas — “S.P. Tracks” (Southern Pacific tracks). Hoffmann-Hayman plant address 1923–1932 per the companies hub. The address appears prominently in the 26 August 1923 San Antonio Light “H AND H Products earn the Praise of the Housewife Everywhere” full-page spread (page 66) footer: “Hoffmann Hayman Coffee Co. — WHOLESALE COFFEE, TEAS AND SPICES — 331 Burnett St. — S.P. Tracks — SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.”

The same 26 August 1923 issue includes the “New home of a great institution” spread (page 62), which ties the Burnett Street works back to earlier 1905 and 1910 plant views, a Wm. R. Hoffmann portrait, and the roast line — though the 1905/1910 photos document predecessor sites, not the Burnett plant itself.

Transition to Delaware Street. The companies hub notes H&H roasted at 601 Delaware Street from 1932 onward, suggesting the move from Burnett to Delaware happened around the purpose-built 1932 factory opening. Burnett was therefore a ~9-year occupancy bridging the post-Morrison consolidation era (after the 307 N. Medina move) and the modern Delaware Street factory era.

Open questions

  • Exact 1923 move-in and 1932 move-out dates
  • Was Burnett purpose-built for H&H or an existing building they took over?
  • “S.P. Tracks” suggests rail-spur access for green-coffee imports; was the Burnett site designed for that, or did H&H choose it for the spur?
  • Building’s post-1932 history
