The Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office for November 29, 1932 (p. 1062) publishes two trademark applications for Hoffmann-Hayman Coffee Co. under a single entry, Serial No. 327,979, filed June 14, 1932:

  1. Crystalvac — the script wordmark with “Re-Usable Crystal Jar” tagline, as shown in the trademark art.
  2. H AND H BLEND Coffee — the block-letter logotype with H flanking AND H and “BLEND” below, over the word “Coffee.”

Both marks cover coffee, with claimed use since April 1, 1932. The combined filing establishes the launch date of the Crystalvac jar and the H AND H BLEND Coffee brand mark to Spring 1932 — consistent with the June 1932 San Antonio newspaper coverage of the Crystalvac introduction. The notice specifies the mark was customarily printed in olive brown with an orange border, though the drawing is not restricted to specific colors.

The Official Gazette note disclaims “Re-Usable Crystal Jar,” “Blend,” and “Coffee” as unregistrable descriptive terms, protecting only the distinctive mark as a whole.

A companion filing, Serial No. 327,191 (August 9, 1932), covered the empty glass jars themselves — see the List of Applicants 1932 entry.
