Wednesday, 11 February 1942 San Antonio Express-News (page 13). “Lucille Ferguson Is Complimented” — Miss Josephine Hennessy entertained Tuesday afternoon with a tea at her home in honor of Miss Lucille Ferguson, a bride-elect of the week. Miss Helen Hoffmann served alongside Mrs. James S. Bundren Jr. during the tea hours of 4 to 6. Seventy-five guests called.

Josephine Hennessy was one of the June graduates that Helen Hoffmann honored at her own May 1933 tea — nine years earlier. Their continued friendship through 1942 is a rare glimpse into Helen’s social world in the final years before her January 1945 death. At this date Helen was approximately 30 years old.

Lucille Ferguson Is Complimented

Miss Josephine Hennessy entertained Tuesday afternoon with a tea in her home in honor of Miss Lucille Ferguson, a bride-elect of the week. Receiving with Miss Hennessy and Miss Ferguson were their mothers, Mrs. John Hennessy and Mrs. Charles M. Ferguson. Miss Dorothy Scully, who will be the maid of honor and only attendant, and Mrs. James D. Kerr, mother of the bridegroom-elect, received in the music room which was decked in various spring flowers.

A Spanish lace cloth covered the tea table which had for its centerpiece crystal bowl of white stock, feverfew, white gladioli and fern. A branched candelabrum with six white tapers burned. Mrs. James S. Bundren Jr. and Miss Helen Hoffmann served.

Seventy-five guests called during the tea hours of 4 to 6.
