SAN ANTONIO MAY SEE NEW RAILWAY BUILT HERE SOON

ANNOUNCEMENT MADE AT MEETING OF MANUFACTURERS’ CLUB.

EASTERN CAPITAL COMING

At a meeting of the Manufacturers’ Club held at the Gunter Hotel it was announced that Eastern capitalists would soon visit San Antonio to determine on a new railroad project described as a different proposition from any previously announced. The club endorsed government plans for military building additions in San Antonio.

Walton D. Hood, president, and John Fentiman, chairman of the School Board building committee, reported the board’s commitment to locally made materials and furniture; Fentiman noted a recent rejection of Eastern school furniture for poor quality.

Votes of thanks were given to Congressman James L. Slayden and Senator Morris Sheppard. A resolution passed to investigate canalizing the San Antonio River and improving transportation to Port Aransas.

DISCUSS TRAINING CAMP — A letter from the chief of staff of the Southern Department at Fort Sam Houston discussed a proposed civilian training camp for June or July.

TRADE EXCURSION — Walter Steves was appointed chairman of a committee on a trade excursion, with B. W. Finck and J. Fentiman as members.

URGES MORE INTEREST — Speakers including Paul Krueger and W. B. Tuttle discussed power costs; the San Antonio Gas & Electric Company was noted for underground apparatus costing $250,000, with power to manufacturers at 1½ cents per kilowatt. Alamo Iron Works and San Antonio Machine & Supply Company were mentioned.
