The Spice Mill for August 1924 (p. 1703) runs a classified “Machinery for Sale” column that includes a Hoffmann-Hayman listing:

FOR SALE—BARGAIN—ROYAL COFFEE ROASTER. Capacity 40 pounds; complete; in perfect order. $150 F. O. B. San Antonio, Texas. Address HOFFMANN-HAYMAN COFFEE COMPANY, San Antonio, Texas.

This ad documents H&H disposing of a 40-pound-capacity Royal roaster in August 1924 — the same year the company was building up its operation at the Burnett Street plant. Selling off a smaller roaster while expanding to larger production equipment is consistent with the 1923 plant expansion documented in the San Antonio Light factory series. The $150 asking price (approximately $2,700 in 2025 dollars) reflects a functioning piece of equipment, not scrap: the ad specifies “complete” and “in perfect order.”

Royal was a prominent American coffee roaster manufacturer of the period. A 40-pound drum roaster represented mid-range capacity for regional roasters in the 1920s — adequate for a small operation but undersized for a firm H&H’s scale by 1924.
